Guys, we’re here for you, too.
Support for Men
An unplanned pregnancy can be scary for a woman, but it can be unnerving for the man involved as well. You don’t have to go through this alone. Dakota Hope Clinic is here for you and your partner. We are available to answer your questions and support you during your decision-making process.
You're probably asking...
What Do I Do Now?
This is probably the first question you asked yourself when your partner told you she may be pregnant. We understand that there are so many questions swirling around your head right now, with so many possible outcomes to the
However, the first thing you should do is encourage your partner to take a pregnancy test. There’s no use worrying if you don’t know for certain that she’s pregnant. If she has missed a period, she can schedule a free pregnancy test appointment at Dakota Hope Clinic. If her test comes back positive, the next step is to have an ultrasound performed, which will determine how far along she is and detect a fetal heartbeat.
After her pregnancy is medically confirmed, we can discuss your options with both of you during a pregnancy options appointment.
Supportive Guidance for Expectant Fathers
We're here for both you and your partner. That unplanned pregnancy can bring a flood of questions, from things like your role in decision-making, how adoption works, or how you can be a good dad. We invite you to talk one-on-one with a trusted staff member anytime to get answers and support, confidentially and free of charge.
Practical Involvement in the Pregnancy Journey
Encourage your partner to get accurate answers by accompanying her to a free pregnancy test and ultrasound at Dakota Hope. Understanding the medical facts together helps you make informed decisions as a team.
Resources for Fathers and Other Supports
In addition to emotional support and pregnancy navigation, Dakota Hope connects men (and women) with broader services, including parenting classes, “Earn While You Learn” educational programs, and healing support for pregnancy loss or post-abortion experiences.

- What if we haven’t been together for that long. Will we be able to make it work?
- What’s my role in the decision-making process?

- What if we have different opinions on the outcome of this pregnancy?
- What if I don’t know how to be a good dad?
- How does adoption work? Will I still be able to see my kid?
- What should I do about financial support?
All of these questions are valid and can be discussed during your free and confidential appointment at Dakota Hope Clinic.
Be Present...
Your Involvement Matters
It is important to communicate your thoughts to your partner and have a discussion about what each of you thinks is best. You are part of this pregnancy and what you think, feel and want matters. In fact, your opinion may be the most influential to your partner. While you may think the best thing you can do is tell your partner that you will “support her no matter what,” that actually can communicate the opposite — that it is all her responsibility and her “problem” to figure out.
What you can do is offer to go with your partner to the pregnancy testing appointment and/or ultrasound and educate yourself on all of your options as a potential father. The two of you have many decisions to make and the more you can make them together, the better. Regardless of the decision you and your partner make for the pregnancy, the choice will impact you.
If your partner is pregnant or thinks she might be, you owe it to yourself to stay involved. Contact us today to set up your free and confidential appointment to discuss your situation with a trusted staff member.
